I am Passionate About All My Business Ventures

‘The entertainment industry has made me what I am today’

I am Passionate About All My Business VenturesI have never truly felt that I am a businessman in true sense of that. You have a people like Mukesh Ambani who is a businessman; I am hardly in the same league. Being an entrepreneur is something that happened to me as my carrier in the film industry evolved over the years. When I started Red Chillies in 2002, it was with the dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur. Infact, the company was a progression, an offshoot if I may call it that, of my carrier in the Indian film industry. I wanted to contribute in the different and significant way to the entertainment industry, which has made me what I am today.

You know, there’s a feeling among many people that my enterprises are a means by which I am investing my money that I earn through my films, shows etc. But that is not true. Each of my business enterprises is my passion. They are all related to the entertainment industry in some way or the other and so I can relate to them too. This is biggest and most important motivator for any entrepreneur-to feel passionate about his/her enterprise.

So, my tip to today’s aspiring entrepreneurs would always start with telling them to be passionate about their enterprise.
Don’t jump in just to make money, though that is important too, of course. I believe that if you really feel strongly about your venture, it will pay off in the end and the money will flowing automatically. You should also strike while the iron’s hot. Don’t sit on your ideas if you feel it’s the right time to start a business around them. Sometimes, an idea clicks with your target audience because it was created at the right time. Delaying action may end up in delayed results too.

I also feel you should always think big… take small steps towards your target , but always set yourself a high goal, if you feel your idea’s worth it. When times are tough (as they are), do not think cost-cutting will solve your problems. Those who do that, perish faster in the long run instead, look for other measures to help you tide over the crisis. I would like to end by saying that entrepreneurs should always be honest in all their business dealings. I have always felt that honesty and transparency always pay off in the long run. Keep the faith.
